Baptism has been in existence for a number of years, Jesus himself was baptized and yet he was not a sinner. Why do you think Jesus was baptized yet he was sinless? Behind this practice several reasons lie on it, and they do serve as the important reasons as to why one is determined to get baptism.

Though different churches practice baptism, they really have a tendency to differ substantially, some dip believers in water, others sprinkle water down on their heads, some are made to jump over fire and others carry heavy loads. And all these mark baptism of a follower.

Here are some reasons explaining why people get baptized:

1.) When a person is baptized he or she is made a new follower and gets absorbed as a new Christian in the church and the life of Christ. Baptism marks newness in an individual as his or her sins are forgiven and he or she starts a new life of goodness in the family of God.

2.) Through baptism one receives the Holy Spirit of God. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Spirit came on him in the form of a dove from heaven, the heavens opened; a true believer too receives the Holy Spirit of God which guides him/her in Christianity life.

3.) This occasion in the life of a person marks the death and resurrection of a disciple of Christ. The use of water in numerous baptisms particularly the dipping of Christians in water, marks death with Christ in water and rising indicates one has raisen as a clean person in Christ thus burying the sins which are washed away.

4.) When one undergoes baptism, he is said to have abandoned sins and the devil's works; people opt to get baptized when they have repented their sins, attempted to be really forgiven, they then seek baptism and become saved members of the heavenly family.

5.) Jesus' baptism left with us an example to follow, and people too get to endure baptism as a way of following his example from generation to generation.

6.) One is warranted of inheriting the dominion of God, remember of the Pharisee who asked Jesus what he should do to inherit the kingdom of heaven, Jesus answered him that he should be born again.

Undergoing baptism is important, but keeping in mind that it is a difficult thing, this is the time when Lucifer seeks to fail your righteousness and acquire you as his agent.
